Meet and Greet Brochure Items
School day: 8:15-3:30
Upon arriving at school, students stay in the commons/gym area until the morning bell. At the bell (8:10), students go to their lockers and classrooms.
Breakfast is available beginning at 7:30
At the end of the day, students leave through the doors at the commons/office unless going to the bus.
Lockers:
Students may practice their locker combinations at conferences, and practice time will be allowed the first week of school to ensure students can open lockers independently.
Gym:
Students will change clothes for gym. They need a change of clothes and clean tennis shoes to participate. Clothes will be kept in their lockers. Students will not change clothes their first day of P.E.
Recess:
Students have a recess most afternoons, so they need appropriate clothes and shoes for outside. When winter arrives all students will need winter wear for recess, including snow pants and boots.
Changing Classrooms:
Students change classrooms each period. They need to stay organized to ensure proper materials are with them. 5th grade teacher will help guide the students the first few days of school.
Absences:
If your students will be absent, late, or dismissed early, please call the office. When a student has an upcoming absence, the office and homeroom teacher are to be notified so the student can collect the work that will be missed.
Schoology and Google Classroom:
5th graders may use these online for some class resources and assignments. Any material on these sites has been selected by the instructor.
Homework:
Students will be responsible for completing homework to practice important skills they are learning in the classroom. Each class period, students will record assignments from the classroom board in a provided individual planner.
Study Time and Other Support:
Students will need to set aside study time at home to get school work done.
"Homework Club" is a supervised after-school study time available from 3:30-4:30. Days of the week will be announced.
A test retake is available in most core classes within a week of the initial test attempt.
Wednesday Schedules:
Early dismissals for teacher in-service are approximately every other Wednesday, as shown on the school calendar.
Cell Phones:
If a student has a cell phone, it is to remain in the student's locker during the day set on "mute".
Supplies:
Please refer to the school supply list. Book bags stay in lockers during the day.
Box Tops:
5th grade classes collect Box Tops for Education which may be brought to any 5th grade teacher at any time. Funds raised are used for various activities throughout the year.
Parent Involvement and Student Grades:
Parents are encouraged to check the planner with their student daily to be active in their student's learning.
Parents may log in to view their student's grades and attendance by using "Infinite Campus". This is found on the school web-site by selecting the "Students and Parents" tab and then "Parent Portal". (Letter grades A-F earned quarterly will be explained to students.)
Report cards are also accessed through the above Infinite Campus Site rather than print copies being sent home.
